We've all seen the pregnancy announcement posts on social media of sonograms and smiling couples, with maybe a teddy in pink or blue and even an engagement ring if your mama is religious. Expectant mums are never known to keep their private lives off social media, with every new scan and little bootie purchase uploaded straight to Facebook, but this new nail trend could be a game changer. You can now get your sonograms done as nail art in special manicures by UK beautician Sarah Clarke, and they're actually pretty good. Sarah is clearly a talented nail artist, because the reproductions really do look like the sonograms pictured, but ya know... they're still black and white wobbly lines.
*** MY BABY SCAN NAILS *** Due to an unbelievable amount of demand for the scan nails I have decided to offer them on...Posted by Sarah Clarke on Sunday, 15 April 2018
Sarah runs her own nail salon in Stockton-on-Tees called 'SARenity Hair and Beauty', and apparently she's been inundated with messages since she posted about the nails on social media from other soon-to-be mums who want their wavy baby photos immortalised on their thumbs. She told Pretty52 "I created that nail with firstly applying the acrylic nail and painted the picture by copying her scan picture using paint and a fine brush. It has proven to be very popular with existing clients and people from all over requesting it also. I have now got quite a few people booked in for these, including a few people who have lost their babies and want it for an occasion."
A full set of the themed nails costs £40 and the art that went viral was part of an 'unknown gender' manicure for customer Stacey MacDonald. It featured the sonogram, pink and blue gems embedded in the nails and a teddy bear with a pink and blue ribbon around his head. Sarah is apparently fully booked for weeks after the post, to the extent where she's come up with a time saving idea that could ensure everyone who wants sonogram nails can get ahold of them.
She posted to Facebook explaining: "Due to an unbelievable amount of demand for the scan nails I have decided to offer them on an express tip. I hate to disappoint people by not giving them an appointment and I'm booked up two weeks in advance minimum now. So if you send me your scan pic with your full name and address, I will put the picture onto a tip that you can then get a nail tech to apply for you. Also this offer is available to other nail techs so they can apply them to their own clients. The nail will be sent in a presentation box so you can keep the tip as a keepsake as many people have already asked for."
