Starbucks is currently facing a lawsuit from a family that claims they were served a frappuccino with a barista’s blood in it.
Amanda and Luis Vice say they didn’t realise that something was wrong with their drinks until they had already taken them home and given them to their 2-year-old daughter. Part way through the beverage they noticed a strange red substance that had a “strong metallic smell” that was smeared along the inside of the cup and lid.
Speaking to reporters the Vices said,
“Once we drank it, then we could see on the inside of the rim that there was blood.”
At this stage their daughter was already licking whipped cream off the lid. After phoning Starbucks it was revealed that one of the baristas had cut their hand and were removed off the floor quickly after, but not before making the Vice’s drinks.
“My wife and my baby just drank someone’s blood,” Louis Vice said. “It was bad.”
Amanda Vice later added,
“We felt sick to our stomachs, we shouldn’t have to worry about going to get something to drink and there being blood in our drink where we could get sick. It’s very stressful.”
Starbucks offered each member of the family $1000 and free drinks for a week but the Vice are not satisfied, with their attorney saying, “it does not begin to compensate the family for suffered injuries and damages for which Starbucks is liable.
“They endured additional distress because Starbucks seemed to not care about their wellbeing and refused to direct the employee to undergo a blood test to ensure the family's safety”
Starbucks has said they are aware of the case and are willing to state their case in court.
