Ghost ships have captured people’s imaginations for as long as humans have been sailing the oceans. For reasons as frightening as they are mysterious it is not uncommon for ships to float at sea for months, sometimes years, only to float to a nearby shore due to strange currents and reveal that there is no one on board. Sometimes they wash up completely bare of any signs of human occupation, like the infamous Mary Celeste.
But sometimes they arrive packed with dead bodies.
This has been happening for hundreds of years and no one knows why. Experts have suggested it might be due to disease, starvation or piracy. While those on the fringes of science have suggested the cause may be supernatural, proposing the possibility that undiscovered sea creatures or even aliens are responsible. While that may sound silly and unrealistic, or possibly even ridiculous, it doesn’t change the fact it happens.
Like this month, when a ship washed up on Japan full of skeletons! Authorities have been absolutely baffled by the discovery and are remaining tight lipped on the causes. Naturally this has resulted in people going wild with speculation. After all it is a pretty frightening idea that there are ships bobbing around the sea filled with skeletons and corpses with no rational explanation. However, various people across the internet have quickly revealed a more realistic explanation.
That’s right, just when you thought North Korea couldn’t get any more nightmarish you read something like that. Oh yes, North Korea forces fisherman to go out into the sea with insufficient food just in case they decide to try and defer. And as if that wasn’t depressing enough, the fisherman still try to defect and willingly risk starvation.
That's... that's just horrific. I think it would have been better if it had actually been a sea monster responsible.
