The great pyramids of Giza are one of the great wonders of the world. Shrouded in mystery these ancient monuments are the most famous remnants of one of the world’s oldest and most powerful civilisations.
For centuries the Ancient Egyptians have remained one of the most enigmatic parts of humanity’s lost history. They have been surrounded by theories that range from fascinating to uh, well, completely bananas (we’re looking at you, aliens).
But scientists have lately discovered that there’s yet more to be learned about the pyramids, even in 2017 when you would think no corner would remain explored.
Using a strange new technique where they scanned cosmic particles that pass through solid rock the researchers were able to image the pyramid in a way impossible until now.
What those scientists revealed was a completely unseen and unknown chamber deep inside the pyramid that is at least a whopping 8m tall and 30m long.
As of now theories vary as to what the chamber was for. Some have suggested it’s there to take some of the load off the Grand Gallery below, while others suggest it may have been there to allow workers easier access to other parts of the pyramid during construction.
Or maybe it’s full of curses and treasure and undead mummies.
Cause that’s we’re all thinking.
Either way, researchers believe the chamber has remained untouched by humans for thousands of years since the day the pyramid’s construction ended and are ecstatic that their strange new method has proven so effective.
So what do you think might be in there? Undiscovered treasure? Hidden technology provided by aliens? Or the ancient Egyptian equivalent to a crawl space? Make sure to let us know in the comments below!
