A shocking video has emerged of a parent holding down their child and forcing them to receive a tattoo from a tattoo artist. The mother is caught on camera restraining her screaming toddler while he is apparently given a tattoo in what appears to be a Spanish speaking country, as the mother is heard saying "Look, look" in Spanish. The child is pictured crying and screaming desperately as they struggle to escape the grasp and the needle is dragged across the skin.
Parents have been arrested for similar offences over the years. Alexander Edwards, a 20 year-old father from Franklin County in Virginia, was arrested in 2014 for tattooing two girls under the age of 13 with a home tattooing kit. Edwards was the boyfriend of the girl's mother, and he tried to use a heated razor blade to scrape the tattoo off the child's shoulder. He was charged with abduction, malicious wounding and felony child neglect. in 2011, a Georgia man was fined $300 and sentenced to 12 months of probation for tattooing his toddler son when he was drunk. Eugene "Stonner" Ashley gave the 3 year-old child a tattoo on his shoulder that said "DB" - short for "Daddy's Boy." and the mother was aware for two years before authorities finally found out.
Children and tattoos are a controversial combination, and a tattoo artist from New Zealand called Benjamin Lloyd has been trying to rehabilitate the image. Benjamin is an air-brusher by trade, and has only recently turned his attentions to painting tattoos on adults. He's started focusing on children to showcase his art, using a special paint that easily washes off to keep parents happy, but that mean intricate designs still look detailed and beautiful. Benjamin was inspired by his young stepson, who he used to paint and who loved the process. The child passed away a few years ago, and he honours his memory by creating the little nine minute art pieces for other beaming children.
