This might be one of the weirder things to have ever happened but over the weekend Jean Claude Van Damme got into a physical altercation with Jason David Frank, best known for portraying the Green Power Ranger for 21 years. Jason David Frank, however, is also reasonably well known for being a professional MMA fighter and extremely accomplished martial artist. We here love Van Damme but, uh, the following sentence may not be as much of a surprise now.
The power ranger won.
Stranger still, this physical fight was just the tip of the iceberg because the two have had a decades long beef!
In 1995 the pair exchanged words at the premiere for the Power Rangers Movie but never resolved the confrontation. The two continued to exchange snide remarks about the other for over a decade until in 2010 Frank offered Jean Claude the chance to end their rivalry with a public fight but never received a response.
Cue the weekend just gone where, at Comic-Con, Frank was asked to share his green room with Jean Claude and (like a gentleman) agreed. However, when on his way to meet the legendary action star he was confronted by a horde of putty men summoned into existence by Jean Claude’s inept second-in-command by the star where heated words were exchanged.
Available footage shows the two getting ‘all up in each other’s faces’ (a technical term) until Jean Claude agrees to a regulated MMA-style fight. The fight erupted quickly until but was ended even faster when Frank got Jean Claude in a head lock where he remained. But, keep in mind that's Frank's side of the story. Jean Claude’s own take on events may not be so one-sided.
Still, the footage makes it pretty clear that the Power Ranger won. Hopefully this won’t be the conclusion to this weird and strange saga because we at DigZoo want more. Perhaps Arnold Schwarzenegger has beef with Captain Planet and wants to put it to rest? Sylvester Stallone vs the puppet from Goosebumps, maybe? Jackie Chan vs Optimus Prime?
Wait, holy sh*t that last one sounds cool! Of course, if you have any of your own ridiculous action star vs children's character then please let us know in the comments below! And what do you think? Was Jean Claude an actor who thought blurred reality with fiction and thought he could go toe-to-toe with a real-life MMA star? Or is Frank talking a load of crap? Is Jean Claude van Damme the real deal? Is the footage faked? Let us know what you think!
