Way back in 2004 Australian pop starlet Olivia Newton-John has her life thrown into turmoil when her boyfriend of nine years, Patrick McDermott, went missing and was presumed dead in 2005. He never returned from a fishing trip and was officially declared dead in 2008 and now, almost ten years later, private detectives claim they’ve found him hiding out in Mexico with a mystery woman.
Private detective Philip Klein - who was hired by Dateline in 2009 to track Patrick down - said it was 'concluded beyond reasonable doubt' that Patrick is alive after finding damning evidence on a noticeboard at a campground in Sayulita, on the western coast of Mexico. Rumours had persisted in the area for years and several high profile American detectives had been investigating, wanting to finally close the decades old case.
Apparently McDermott was behind on child support payments and seems to have decided to just skip town in a fairly dramatic fashion by literally faking his own death and moving to Mexico. Newton-John has been fairly open about her struggle to get over the unusual loss, describing the experience as ‘very hard, difficult times’ and though the discovery should finally put the mystery to bed the Grease actress will no doubt have even more questions to ask McDermott when they finally meet again.
