I bet you thought we were sensationalising this, didn’t you? Well look and despair, because that’s a f*cking huge lobster claw.
A fisherman in North Wales has gained international attention after part of his haul produced a rather peculiar appendage. Shaun Krijnen was shocked to find a colossal 30cm long lobster claw and a massive 18.7cm long carapace.
"I've showed it to the lads who work with me and they said they don't want to put their hands under the bags anymore knowing that might be there,” Shaun told reporters and we 100% agree with those workers of his. To give a better sense of how big this creature is, here is a photo explaining what a carapace is.
So that 20cm carapace, and 30cm claw are missing the other half a metre of sheer terror. Whew nelly, that’s a big lobster. Not to mention that the carapace found was a moult, which means the lobster had actually outgrown that particular bit of shell so in reality it’s still only getting bigger.
Lobsters actually live indefinitely, and they keep growing as they age. So it’s feasible that there are exceptionally rare but exceptionally large individuals lurking around the depths. The current record is 124cm in length which, uh…
124cm is taller than an 8-year-old child. It’s bigger than a lot of dogs. And right now it might not even be the damned record anymore! Somewhere off the coast of the North of Wales is a huge Labrador-sized lobster stumbling around with claws powerful enough to snap an adult man’s wrist . It’s scuttling around the murky depths of ice cold Welsh waters just waiting for some poor bastard to haul it up so it can eat the skin off his face (okay we made that last part up.)
Seriously though, why do people make a big deal of sea monsters when the sea is already filled with monsters. Don't believe me!?
Why don't you check out this close up of a lobster’s mouth?
