A Russian murderer has spoken about his experience of killing and eating another human. Dmitry Luchin, 21, became obsessed with cannibalism after reading about Jeffrey Dahmer who raped, murdered and dismembered 17 boys and men between 1978 and 1991. Luchin researched him before hitting his girlfriend Olga Budunova over the head 25 times with a wine bottle and dismembering her body with a meat cleaver. He is said t o have torn her insides out and roasted her brain, eating it with a glass filled with her blood and said to police when he was arrested: "I liked the taste of her brain. I decided to give it another try. Then I drained some of her blood into a glass."
He carried out the murder in his victim’s flat where the pair were planning to celebrate International Women’s Day together with drinks. Witness Alexandra Dedova, 21, said that there was a sign of the devil on the door that he had painted using blood from Budunova's cracked skull. She said: "He wanted to summon the devil. He waited for 5 minutes but the devil did not appear… Next he took the meat cleaver and smashed her skull to the brain. He cut pieces out of her brain. He roasted and ate them. He liked it. He ate another piece, he said. Then poured a glass of her blood and drank."
Prosecutor Olga Bondarenko said: "Next he cut out her stomach, and chopped off her ears. One he put into her mouth, the other into the cat’s bowl." He is also said to have inserted wine bottles into her vagina and sexually pleasured himself with her body. Luchin had initially appealed for the trial to be held behind closed doors but the judge refused. The court heard that, shockingly, Luchin was sane and fit to stand trial for the ‘ritualistic, cannibalistic murder’ that initially seemed to be motivated by mental illness. He was found to have ‘the intelligence of a philosopher’, and told police he carried out the killing to ‘get inspiration to write poetry’. He was subscribed to an online site called ‘World of maniacs and serial killers’ at the time of the murder, say prosecutors.
Luchin faces a life sentence if convicted of murder and the desecration of the dead.
