On Wednesday 11th October residents in Washington were surprised to find that two of the largest social media websites were experiencing outages in their area. Facebook and Instagram were temporarily unavailable to residents for only short periods of time but that didn’t stop some people resorting to, uh, disproportionate measures.

Police in Bothell, Washington were called by various residents who were alarmed by the loss of Facebook and Instagram. What did they think the police were going to do, exactly? It isn’t obvious.

"We will move mountains to help those in our community," Bothell Police said in a tweet. "However we can't fix Facebook so please don't call 911 to 'let us know its down'."
That’s a very nice way of saying, “Don’t be f*cking idiots.” So remember that lesson folks, it’s an important one!
Would you call the cops when Facebook goes down? Are you that much of a social media addict? Do likes and shares course through your veins? Or do you think phoning the police is a really stupid thing to do in this situation? Let us know in the comments below!
