A woman from Nashville Tennessee has been arrested for attempted murder after she was accused of shooting a homeless man. Katie Quackenbush, aged 26, was arrested on Monday for the shooting of Gerald Melton, aged 54. Gerald is currently alive but still in critical condition in hospital.
Police say that Gerald asked Katie to move her car because he was being disturbed by the fumes and loud music she was playing at the time; it was 3am and he was trying to sleep at the time. The two started to shout at one another in the street, and Katie then left her vehicle and shot Gerald twice with a gun. Afterwards she fled the scene with another woman.

Katie, however, has contested this series of events and has gone so far as to lambast the news organisation that first broke the story, saying “F*ck the hillbilly news there”. Katie argues that she was attacked by Gerald and was forced to use the gun in self-defence. She says that she fled the scene terrified for her life, and didn’t even know she had hit Gerald. Her father has also stepped up to challenge the story and confronted the journalist responsible, telling her that he hoped “someday you find yourself confronted by a psychotic man threatening to kill you on a dark street”.
The news station has since responded by threatening the family with legal action if they continue to use threatening language. Katie took to social media to criticise the station further saying,
“This is how untrue and biased the news is. We simply message them about how they are inaccurately reporting the news and they act like they are threatened. What do you think it feels like to be attacked by a 6’1 homeless man in a dark street who has known mental issues c*cksuckers!!! Fuck Tennessee for protecting men who abuse and threaten women…. F*ck the hillbilly news there.”
Meanwhile the news station responsible has hit back hard, highlighting Katie Quackenbush’s history of violent behaviour and reporting the father’s behaviour as an active threat on the journalist’s life, and talking of how she went to Taco Bell after the shooting incident. They have also reported on the shooting victim’s testimony, where Gerald describes Katie as standing over him while asking if he “wants to die tonight”.
