Eleven, everyone’s favourite bitchin’ eggo eater, was supposed to DIE in the original first draft of Stranger Things. At a Question and Answer session this week Ross Duffer, one of the two Duffer Brothers behind the Netflix hit show, admitted that the plan was for the show to be a limited series with no second season. “Maybe I shouldn’t say this because I like to pretend that it was all planned out, but it was originally pitched as a limited series,” Duffer said of the Netflix series. Duffer continued: “So, Eleven was going to sacrifice herself and save the world, and then that was going to be it, because there was a moment where limited series were a big deal.”.
Apparently, Netflix loved the show but wanted a second series so the Brothers decided in the moment to keep Eleven and bring her into a second series that also focussed on Will’s recovery from his time in the Upside Down. And we’re lucky they did… We may never have had goth Eleven or big brother Steve otherwise and imagine THAT.
Series two of Stranger Things is streaming now on Netflix
