While Saudi Arabia is gripped by one of the most widespread and aggressive anti-corruption purges in its (or anyone’s) history, another branch of the Saudi government is up to something just as important.
They’re learning to defend themselves against black magic.
The Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and Protection of Vice (CPVPV) has been holding special classes that aim to equip its attendees with the skills necessary to “scientifically battle witchcraft”. For those who are currently wondering whether to Google it, the CPVPV is a branch of the Saudi Arabian government that seeks to maintain religious purity, enforce moral decency and Sharia Law. The religious police have recently had many of their powers stripped away from them and are now only able to refer certain cases to the actual police, but that hasn’t stopped them from holding classes on how to defeat black magic.
The course was held in the city of Taif and had 27 attendants. The aim of the class was to help the “development of scientific skills in the fight against witchcraft” and the attendees left with a certificate from the head of the Taif government. With the certificates in hand they are now ready to step up and protect the world against witchcraft.
Although we can’t help but wonder if 27 people are going to be enough to protect you against an onslaught of dementors.
