Kimberly Paige Barnette (Pictured) listed ‘white’ as a qualification on a recent application.
A mayoral candidate for Charlotte, N.C has come under fire after listing ‘white’ as a qualification, although the original Facebook post has since been deleted. After listing her qualifications as “REPUBLICAN & SMART, WHITE, TRADITIONAL,” Kimberly Paige Barnette was faced with criticism from her own party.
The chairman of the North Carolina GOP offered this response,
“Any suggestion that a candidate is more or less qualified for political office based on their skin color alone is offensive to North Carolina Republicans, and we condemn it.”
The former magistrate, Kimberly, has since apologised for her remarks and tried to refocus the discussion about her back onto the issues at hand, including her support for protests and the desire to attract wealthier people to North Carolina. Still, Kimberly has found herself trailing the two other candidates in the Republican primary suggesting that this particular qualification didn’t actually help her all that much.
