After eight long years of thievery, police have finally caught a dreaded burglar who terrorised the city of Osaka in Western Japan. Normally that wouldn’t be terribly exciting except that this burglar was a) a freakin’ ninja complete with an all-black ninja outfit and gymnastic wall running, and b) 74 years-old.
So, when was the last time YOU went wall-running and committed daring night-raids against various commercial properties?
And you’re not even 74…
On a more serious note the elderly gentlemen in question is believed to be responsible for dozens of unsolved burglaries that stretch across an eight-year period. The amount stolen totals a whopping £200,000! And it appears that one of the reasons the man was able to continue committing burglaries without being caught for so long was that the police were looking for a much younger man.
Which, to be fair, seems like an easy mistake to make.
The elderly gentleman was only found after he slipped up and let his face appear during one of his robberies. Why did he do this? After eight years of never coming close to being captured we suppose that he figured no one would ever catch him so eventually he got sloppy and stopped wearing the mask. That was a big mistake because the police quickly used CCTV footage to identify him.
Of course, after they realised he was 74 they decided to not arrest him straight away (come on, admit it, you’d think you’d made a mistake too) but instead followed him just in-case.
For weeks the man’s behaviour was unusual but not criminal and police were starting to get frustrated, believing that they were nowhere near catching the criminal. That is until they followed him to an old abandoned warehouse. There the old man entered the building and waited for hours and hours until he emerged after dark, dressed all in black.
With this new discovery the police were finally confident that they’d found their culprit and promptly arrested him.
What does the 74-year-old ninja have to say about himself?
“If I were younger, I wouldn’t have been caught. I’ll quit now as I’m 74 and old enough,” was all he had to say on the matter.
God damn that’s cool…
