Grammy award winner Seal has weighed in to the Oprah-Weinstein debate to claim that the talk show host-turned-actress knew for years about the sexual harassment allegations and chose to ignore them until it made sense for her career. Though he provided no proof, he shared an image on Instagram of Oprah kissing disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein along with a caption featuring the hashtag “SanctimoniousHollywood”.
The angry post comes as Oprah is widely being urged to run for President in 2020 after her ‘inspirational’ Golden Globes speech where she told girls watching the ceremony that a ‘new day is on the horizon’ where no one will be the victim of sexual harassment and assault. Oprah had addressed the Weinstein sex scandal in a post on her Facebook account late last year, writing: "I’ve been processing the accounts of Harvey Weinstein’s hideous behaviour and haven’t been able to find the words to articulate the magnitude of the situation." More than 80 women, including Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd, and Gwyneth Paltrow, have now accused the studio boss of sexual assault and harassment. Weinstein admits lapses in judgement and previous bad behaviour, but continues to deny all allegations against him.
