A German man has been accused of leaving his wife to die after she was discovered dead in the bath tub. He has since been arrested and charged with “abandonment leading to death”. An accusation he has denied, telling reporters,
"She did not let herself be helped, mind your own business."
The obese woman fell sometime during June and hit her head on a shelf. The accused maintains that she completely refused all of his efforts to help and he was forced to look after her for eight days as she lay in the bathwater. This included bringing her tea, food, warm water for the tub, while also periodically charging her tablet and bringing it back to her. The woman later passed away from pneumonia where she was found two days afterwards after her husband called emergency services.
Police say they believe the woman would have been calling for help, and suspect that rather than help her the accused brought her snacks and left her where she was, otherwise ignoring her pleas for assistance.
By the time he did phone it had been two days she had died.
Come to think of it – if he didn’t bring her snacks for two days then he must’ve known that she was dead, right? Every day he brought her food and then one day he opened the door and she was dead and he... waited another two days? Why? This guy’s story doesn’t really hold up. Either he knew she was dead in the tub and didn’t care enough to phone the police, or he didn’t know she was dead for all those days but didn’t care enough to check whether she was alive or dead.
We don’t rate this guy’s chance in the upcoming trial.
