Harvey Weinstein has had a bad year. For decades now people have always kind of known that he was a bit of a perv. South Park was making jokes waaaaay back in the early 2000’s, Seth MacFarlane was referencing him in speeches, and overall it was known that Weinstein was a lecherous creep. Part of the reason Weinstein kept this under wraps was his tendency to sue the living crap out of anyone who discussed his behaviour but it was only a matter of time until that strategy went up against the likes of Twitter and Youtube and failed to stem the flow of accusations.
Last year that happened and boy did the floodgates open! Harvey Weinstein was revealed for what he really was; a full blown sexual predator who had spent decades using his power and influence to coerce—and occasionally just flat-out force—women to have sex with him. In the space of thirty days he went from one of the most powerful men in Hollywood to one of the most hated individuals worldwide. Given his decades long reign of abuse and rape most people agree it’s a reputation he deserves.
But what would you do if you saw Harvey Weinstein?
That’s what one man in Arizona was faced with yesterday after Harvey Weinstein entered the Elements restaurant in Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort where he was eating and sat down to order food. Reports vary but apparently the man initially approached Weinstein and asked for a photo but the media mogul “politely declined”. Afterwards, when Weinstein had finished his meal and was preparing to the leave the same man stood and went to stop him. As he approached Weinstein he then attempted to punch him twice before failing and eventually slapping him instead while shouting that it was for “what he did to those women”.
The reaction across the media has generally been in support of the man who struck Weinstein.
