For the first time in history Declan Donnelly will appear without Ant McPartlin after he issued a statement explaining that “everyone at ITV feels we owe it to the audience to complete the series.” At the same time Ant McPartlin has been taken in by police and questioned about his behaviour after he was involved in a crash earlier this week where he ran his vehicle into the back of a mini cooper. The resultant collision sent a three-year-old girl to hospital, although her injuries were not life threatening. Ant McPartlin failed a breathalyser test on the scene and today he was taken into police custody for the second time.

The future is not looking good for Ant & Dec, and this weekend we will see Dec on screen on his own for the first time ever, with him breaking a lifelong promise to never appear without his partner Ant. The full statement he issued to fans read:
“Whilst I never thought I'd be in this position, after much discussion and careful consideration we've decided that the remaining two shows of this series of Saturday Night Takeaway will go ahead.
“We made a promise to take hundreds of deserving winners to Florida to watch the series finale, and we will honour that.
“Everyone at ITV and the Takeaway team feels we owe it to the audience to complete the series.”
Declan Donnelly to present ITV's Saturday Night Takeaway alone after Ant McPartlin returns to rehab https://t.co/DuZun4Vxgn— ITV News (@itvnews) 21 March 2018
ITV supplemented the statement with their own:
“We can confirm that Saturday Night Takeaway, presented by Declan Donnelly, will return to ITV on March 31, and the series finale will be taking place at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida a week later.”
There are currently rumours that Scarlett Moffatt or Stephen Mulhern may step up to help present the show alongside Dec, although both have said that will not be the case.
Ant may face criminal charges for the incident but in the meantime he has released a statement clarifying that he will be attending rehab in the hope of addressing his drinking problem which has been stoked by a recent divorce. Since the crash he has been in lockdown in his £1.6 million home with only his mother for company. Today he was pictured for the first time since the accident, having been summoned by the police for questioning.
