A passenger train travelling from New York to Miami derailed at 2.30am EST this morning. The train was part of the Amtrak Silver Service that connects Miami to New York on an overnight line. The passenger train derailed as a result of a collision with a freight train.
Emergency services are still on the scene and current reports state that at least two passengers are dead with around 50 injured.
The local sheriff department tweeted the following statements,
“Train collision and derailment near Charleston Highway and Pine Ridge Rd.
“More details to come.
Before later clarifying,
“Two fatalities in passenger train versus freight train.”
They later clarified that all passengers are off the train, although there are reports of walking wounded in the area.

The crash comes only a week after another Amtrak service, carrying a number of GOP and Republican politicians, struck a garbage truck on the railway. The collision killed a man sat in the passenger-side seat of the truck but none of the train’s passengers were harmed.
