A father and daughter were arrested on Tuesday after they were caught having sex by their neighbours. Justin Bunn, 39, and Taylor Bunn, 19, were taken into custody after witnesses phoned the police to report the pair having sex in their backyard.
The pair appeared in court on Wednesday on incest charges after they confessed that they had engaged in sexual activity together. However, the pair were adamant that it a single isolated incident that was consensual, but not reflective of a long-term or romantic relationship. Despite this, the judge still ordered the pair to remain apart for the duration of the trial.

Justin Bunn’s bail was set to $5000 while Taylor Bunn’s bail was set to $1000. It is not clear what sort of sentencing the pair may face if found guilty, but a similar case in Tulsa saw a woman sentenced to 10 years in prison after she married her own mother. Bizarrely, the mother, Misty Spann, had also been previously married to her son and was under the belief that she was not breaking any laws because her and her daughter did not share their last name on their respective birth certificates.
In a similar case, Steven Pladl, 42, and Katie Pladl, 20, were arrested after authorities were warned about their intention to marry one another despite being father and daughter. Just as bad was the fact that Katie was pregnant with her father’s child. In both the Spann and Pladl cases the parents had been split from their children by adoption and were reunited later as adults. It is not clear if similar circumstances frame Justin and Taylor Bunn’s relationship.
Strangely, it is not uncommon for blood relatives separated by adoption to have strong feelings of sexual attraction to one another. The phenomenon is known as Genetic Sexual Attraction, and scientists theorise that it is caused by our evolutionary tendency to search for mates who are similar to us physically, psychologically, and genetically. This means that it is not uncommon for people to meet, fall in love, and then discover that they are actually long-lost siblings or possibly even parents. It may also explain why many people who meet as adults still enter into relationships with long-lost siblings and parents despite being fully aware that they are related.
Whatever the cause, the practice is still illegal and the act of incest carries prison sentences in many countries across the world.
