After nearly fifty-four years the JFK assassination files are finally going to be de-classified and released to the public. Well, kind of. Some of them will still be held back for… reasons? It doesn’t entirely make sense but at DigZoo we suspect it’s because it’s the FBI’s way of guaranteeing that conspiracy theorists keep pulling their hair out and talking nonsense.
Either way, most of the information is out there and internet sleuths have quickly identified a host of interesting facts.
So, let’s get into some of the strange things people identified in these files. First, the FBI put a lot of work into making sure that Lee Harvey Oswald (the guy who assassinated JFK) acted alone. The files also list a sheriff who reported a mysterious phone call from a man claiming to be a member of a committee dedicated to killing JFK that Lee Harvey Oswald belonged to. The man was phoning to warn about the imminent threat to the assassin’s life. This was a full day before the assassination.
Another sleuth found reports that a British reporter was warned about the upcoming assassination and given a heads up about when and where it would happen.
Further investigation found dialogue from the CIA stating that they must ensure that the public believe that Oswald “acted alone”. Other information available also ties the assassination into the Vietnamese war and the assassination of the Vietnamese president, as well as CIA-backed attempts on the life of Fidel Castro (at-the-time ruler of Cuba). This includes descriptions of how the CIA attempted to persuade prominent mafia members to meet with Castro and assassinate him on behalf of the American people in return for greater leniency from the law.
But we at DigZoo are interested in hearing what you may or may not have found in the files? What are we missing? And what’s been deliberately hidden from us? Let’s not forget, many of the files remain classified. While the assassination is over half-a-century behind us, you can’t help but wonder what might be in those files that are so relevant to the modern era that they have to remain hidden. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below!
