A Pennsylvania couple have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder when their son was found at their home “limp and unresponsive” after the parents admitted to giving their son a “butt whooping”.
Montgomery DA Kevin Steele told press on Friday that the 19-year-old mother, Lisa Smith, and her 26-year-old boyfriend, Keiff King are being charged “for the senseless killing of young Tahjir [their son].”

Police were called to the scene on January 22nd regarding a “a respiratory emergency” after paramedics had arrived and found the toddler lying on the floor, “limp and unresponsive”. He was later pronounced dead at hospital. Police have revealed that investigations showed that the boy’s parents beat him using their hands and a sandal as punishment after he spilled his cereal.
He was repeatedly struck in the head and torso, and the coroner concluded that he had died from “multiple blunt injuries, thermal injuries and shock,” and that the cause of death was “homicide”.
“The forensic pathologist’s determination that Tahjir’s death was homicide shows what detectives found in our investigation—that this was a violent, sustained beating of a 4-year-old that caused his death,” said the District Attorney in his press release. “And it was a beating at the hands of the mother’s boyfriend and the mother, the very person entrusted to care for the boy.”
The two are due to appear in court on April 18th and have not been offered bail.
