At 7pm Eastern time on Thursday Nov 2nd the President’s twitter account was shut down.
The account was quickly reactivated eleven minutes later but not before all of social media had gone absolutely wild with speculation. People were celebratory, elated, concerned, confused and (as is usual for social media) overwhelmingly angry at everyone and everything. People wanted answers and they wanted them now.
Well, it turned out that it was a disgruntled employee.
Yup, a twitter employee on their final day of work decided to play absolute havoc with world affairs by managing to shut the account down. Twitter quickly resolved the issue and have since responded.
"We have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer-support employee who did this on the employee's last day. We are conducting a full internal review," Twitter tweeted, allaying all of our concerns that something actually happened somewhere.
