The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air could be making a comeback, with a twist
It's been 22 years since Fresh Prince fell off our screens, paving the way for Will Smith's stratospheric career. Fans have been desperate for a return ever since, and a photo Will posted on Instagram just last year of a cast reunion got people very excited. Will has spoken about the possibility of a return to Bel Air, but he's pretty adamant that if something else comes out he won't be involved: “Stuff had to go really wrong for there to be a Fresh Prince reunion special. Like, I don't know what would have to happen! Nah man, you can't touch stuff like that. It's so nostalgic for people - I'm not going nowhere near that.” Though Will might not want to return to the show that made him a star, other young up and coming actors might leap at the chance.
With that in mind, reports from TMZ suggest that the company that owns the rights to the Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air is in serious talks about securing a new version of the show with a woman in the lead role. According to the showbiz news outlet: "The company that owns the rights to 'Fresh Prince' filed a few trademark applications seeking to lock down rights to 'Fresh Princess' for a television program and virtually every other media platform. They're also looking to trademark the 'Fresh Princess' on a bunch of merch - including bags, backpacks, animal collars and, of course, lots of clothing and footwear."
There's no word yet on whether Will would be involved in this female-focused reboot. Though he's ruled out coming back for a reunion specifically, he might be interested in playing an older Uncle Phil type character or would probably at least make a cameo appearance at some stage. We're excited either way. You could even say they're thinking about 'flipping, turning upside down the franchise'. I'm sorry...
