Friends actor and national sweetheart Jennifer Aniston has announced her separation from husband of two years, Justin Theroux, this morning. The couple had been under scrutiny from the press after a source close to them had leaved their marital troubles, and in an official statement the pair put an end to the speculation and confirmed that they had gone their separate ways at the end of last year. The full statement doesn't explain what caused the split, and reads as follows:
"In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship. Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another."
Aniston and Theroux reportedly met when they were filming Wanderlust in 2011 and quickly began dating, having something of a whirlwind romance and getting engaged in August 2012. They were married on August 5th, 2015, at Aniston’s Beverly Hills estate, in a surprise wedding after guests were invited to what they thought was a party to celebrate Theroux’s 44th birthday. Fans are devastated at their pairs split, but hopeful that this might lead to something better for the much-loved actress. Her marriage to Theroux was her second time down the aisle, the first being to movie star Brad Pitt, who is also going through a divorce of his own. Could this mean a reunion of the best nineties couple to ever live?
Jennifer and Brad were married for five years before Brad met second wife Angelina Jolie on the set of 2005 flick Mr & Mrs Smith. Brad was also married for two years to Angelina before they separated, in a strange parallel with Aniston's life. Despite the pair divorcing under difficult circumstances, as rumours swirled that Brad had cheated on Jen while filming the action film, they are said to have reunited and smoothed things out and apparently enjoy a comfortable friendship where they often call and ask each other for advice. Maybe they're leaning on each other's shoulders in what must be a tough time for both of them? Who knows. I'll dig my Team Jen t-shirt out of the loft just in case.
