Elsa was the ice queen who stole our hearts in Frozen, and an icon for little girls everywhere who might not have totally identified with her bubblier sister, Anna. Frozen was groundbreaking for being one of few Disney films where the main princess wasn’t saved by the love of a good man, and instead by her deep and endearing connection with her sister - a different type of love. It set a new standard, and it might be continuing in its own steps with Frozen 2 by breaking new ground again.

An internet campaign swept Twitter after Frozen was released called ‘Give Elsa A Girlfriend’ that tried to convince the makers of the film to... give Elsa a girlfriend. Pretty self explanatory. Fans watched Frozen and read Elsa as a lesbian, and the campaign reached over 10,000 tweets before getting the attention of Frozen codirector Chris Buck who didn't immediately shut down the idea. He talked about the plans for the future of Frozen 2: “We will tackle other issues that, I think, are out there today that boys and girls, men and women, are dealing with.”

Just this week, the OTHER codirector of Frozen, Jennifer Lee, was also asked about whether Elsa could have a girlfriend and said she wasn’t against the storyline either: “We have tons of conversations about it, and we’re really conscientious about these things. Elsa’s every day telling me where she needs to go, and she’ll continue to tell us. I always write from character out, and where Elsa is and what Elsa’s doing in her life, she’s telling me every day. We’ll see where we go.” Frozen 2 is set to be released in 2019, so what do you think - should Elsa be written as gay?
