The Scottish SCPA (Society for the Care and Protection of Animals) was called out to a house in Linlithgow yesterday after the owner had returned home to find a badger taking a nap on her cat bed.
The scene must have seemed remarkably surreal, but the owner had to act quickly. For those not in the know badgers are adorable but they’re also voracious carnivores who are fearless in their desire to tackle much larger prey (like say a human adult). Even worse, many of them carry dangerous and infectious diseases like tuberculosis. The home owner decided to make the right choice and quickly phoned the experts to come and deal with the situation.
“I got a surprise when I arrived at the property and saw a badger having a nap! He had gotten in through the cat flap and had eaten all the cat food before going for a sleep on the cat bed. He didn’t seem too happy when I tried to move him but I was able to slide the cat bed round and it was then that the badger noticed the back door was open so made a run for it!” said the Animal Rescue Officer Connie O’Neil.
Like all wild animals you shouldn’t bother badgers. They may look absolutely cuddly-wuddly but just take a look at the image below to get a sense of why you shouldn’t mess with them.
