According to anyone over the age of forty, Millennials are the worst people in the world. Lazy, self-centred, stupid, and in need of constant reassurance and positive encouragement, to many our generation is just another downward step in the death of Western culture. But to many Millennials there is the strong feeling that the game was stacked against them right from the start. Houses are insanely expensive, and wages have not risen to meet the ever-climbing cost of living.
But we here at Digzoo want to ask the really important questions. So what if statistics say that all signs of forward progression have been wiped out in a single generation? So what if inequality is spiralling out of control? Who cares if our own citizens are being priced out of their homes by billionaires who drive white BMWs? Who gives a monkey-twiddling sh*t about what’s going to happen when the inheritance boom drives us towards the greatest level of inequality seen in this country since Dickens?
Seriously that stuff is boring. The genuinely important question is this – how will board games cope with the changing world?
Because Monopoly sure as hell isn’t realistic anymore, and it’s starting to p*ss people off. That’s why we love the latest attempt to create a game that actually reflects life for our generation. No, not the game confusingly-called “life”. That also involves owning property and no one can relate to that any more. No no no. We’re on about Screwed: The Millennial Life. A game for all us lazy self-centred entitled avocado fiends.
Betray your work BFF and switch salaries? Send your kids to college? Go to college yourself and get a piece of paper in return? Go on a shit date? The choices are endless, and so is our sense of impending catastrophe.
On a serious note though, the Millennial board game is currently being crowdfunded and we think it looks pretty cool. Like most board games we think this’ll make a great gift and we think it’s hilarious that the all-too-serious debate of baby-boomers vs. millennials is being reduced to a fun little board game. We love board games. They’re a great way to spend an evening drunk with friends without spending any money.
Like we said, you need to save that up for those tasty avocados.
The game is being put together by Tori and her friends who’ve done some seriously impressive work when it comes to the game’s presentation.
“Not willing to face the truth about current and future crippling debt,” Tori writes on the Kickstarter page, “I decided to put together a board game that illustrated just how frustrating our lives can be. And, yes, I am being a bit of a snowflake about the whole thing.”
We’re sure lots of people will have very angry opinions about this, and we’re sure we’ll browse all those angry comments and take each one to heart (no really, we swear that we’ll take any furious ranting to heart. Never forget, getting angry at an article on the internet is always a great way to spend the finite period of time you have on this Earth before you wink out of existence and fade into nothingness for all eternity!)
In the meantime, if you like the idea make sure to pop on over and have a look at the Kickstarter where you can help contribute to the game’s creation.
