Swaddled up in blankets around the fireplace, cuddling up and watching festive movies and cups of hot everything… Winter really is the best season. If you don’t believe me just check out this list
10. Party season
With Christmas party season, Christmas itself and New Year’s Eve all so close together winter is the perfect time to wear glitter and pack away all the Champagne.
Never feel bad about carb-loading in the winter, you need to extra fat to keep warm! Seriously hearty dinners are a staple with meat, potatoes and pastry everywhere.
8. Warm and woolly layers
Hats, scarves, jumpers and gloves are all super comfy and you can only wear them in the winter. The cold weather gives you the perfect opportunity to hide inside oversized wool and debut all your new faux fur.
7. Bonfire Night
Taking your chunky knitted self down to the nearest beach or patch of grass and watching the fireworks on Bonfire Night is the best feeling. You’re equal parts hot and cold, snuggling up with loved ones and toffee apples to watch half an hour of the best fireworks your town can afford… bliss.
6. Festive drinks
And there are so many to choose from! Pumpkin spiced everything, warm apple cider, mulled wine and triple hot chocolate. Winter is definitely the best season if you’re into your hot drinks.
The discussion about snow might be even better than the actual snow. Will there be snow this year? How much snow will we potentially get? Would we still have to go to work? Do I live too close to the sea to really get proper snow? These are all important things to talk about with friends and colleagues from October onwards.
Hear me out. Not so much rain itself, but sitting inside under a warm blanket and listening to the rain beating against your windows outside has to be one of the best feelings ever. Throw a box set on TV, take a nap or eat a multipack of something naughty – it’s up to you as long as you feel smug for avoiding that peaceful rain
3. Less shaving
Whether you’re growing a full lazy beard or just armpit hair ponytails, it’s all acceptable in winter. Put down the razor and let your body do its thing.
This one is a doubler. All the classic Christmas movies are on repeat on your TV, and who doesn’t want to watch every Harry Potter back to back? But even better, the big Oscar releases usually come out in winter ready for award season. Go out or stay in – it’s a win win.
Who doesn’t love being spoilt? As you get older, it really is all about buying presents for other people too. I love spending months finding the perfect presents for my favourite people and then pretending not to be disappointed by their last minute supermarket gifts for me
